Find the difference in percentage points between two percentages.
A simple subtraction — not to be confused with percentage change, which divides by the original value.
Difference: New % − Old %
Why does this matter? Isn't it just subtraction?
News reports often mix up percentage points and percentage change. A rate moving from 5% to 7% is a rise of 2 percentage points, but it is also a 40% increase. Reporting the wrong one is a common source of confusion.
